- Chair Care
A regular maintenance programme can help optimise the performance and working life of any commercial chair.

Checking moving parts…
The base and castors should be checked for wear, tear and damage. It is also important to inspect the operating mechanism to ensure that users can easily adjust the seat and back. This is essential if they are to sit comfortably and in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines. Loose hand wheels and bolts should be tightened and if any chairs appear damaged or unsafe, it is advisable to have them professionally evaluated.

Caring for the fabric, leather or vinyl…
Fabric upholstery can become soiled and the seat and back should be regularly vacuumed to remove any particles. Cleaning is essential to prevent the fabric from becoming permanently stained and the foam backing damaged.

Fresh stains can be treated using a towel or tissue to soak up excess liquid before cleaning with an upholstery shampoo. If a stain has dried in, rub it with a damp cloth and then treat with a good quality fabric cleaner. Tests should be conducted on fabric that is out of sight before the cleaner is applied. Ink stains can carefully be removed with surgical spirit or nail varnish remover followed by washing up liquid in warm water.

Leather or vinyl chairs must be carefully vacuumed to remove abrasive particles prior to cleaning. Surface dirt can then be wiped away with a soft wet cloth. If the leather or vinyl is stained, an appropriate cleaner can be applied or expert advice sought.
